How the working relationship works

Requests · cadence · response · reviews

  1. Work requests

Emailed, then named as small or scoped

You send the request. I write back with whether it is a small evolution the retainer covers, or a project that needs its own estimate. No work begins on a guess.

  2. Monthly

    A check-in, not a status theater

Essentials stays async between quarterly reviews — the monitoring runs, and small updates go out as they come. Partnership adds a one-hour monthly strategy call. Same consultant either way.

  3. Response time

    Forty-eight hours, or twenty-four

Essentials: 48 hours on questions. Partnership: 24 hours. This is a working relationship, not a 24/7 emergency desk. If the site is actually down, say so in the subject line — that jumps the queue.

  4. Quarterly

    A review with numbers attached

Both tiers include a one-hour quarterly review: what the analytics showed, what to change, and what can wait. The point is a decision, not a slide deck.

What's not included

The retainer's edges

  • A full redesign or rebrand. That's a new Brand & Site Build. The Care Plan evolves a site that already exists — it doesn't replace it.
  • New pages, section redesigns, or content overhauls. Anything with a scope is its own project. You get a written estimate first — fee and timing stated before work starts.
  • Platform migrations. Moving from WordPress to Next.js, or off a template CMS onto a custom stack, is a scoped engagement — not a retainer task.
  • Paid media, social, or reputation platforms. Ads, social calendars, and review-site management are outside the studio. The site can support those channels; the Care Plan doesn't run them.
  • A bank of unused hours. There isn't one. The retainer covers monitoring, reviews, and the small evolutions that keep the site working — not a store of time to spend down.

Common questions

Cancellation · add-ons · scope

Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Both tiers are month-to-month. Cancel in the Stripe customer portal or by email before the next billing date. There is no remaining-term fee and no lock-in. The site stays yours.
How fast do you respond?
Essentials: within 48 hours. Partnership: within 24 hours. If something is actually down — SSL, forms, the site itself — say so in the subject line. That jumps the queue. This is not an on-call emergency contract.
How is add-on work scoped?
Larger work — a new page, a section redesign, a strategic content overhaul — is scoped separately as a project. The Care Plan covers the small evolutions that keep the site working; the bigger changes are their own engagement. Estimates are quick and prices are stated upfront, no hourly billing surprises.
How do you decide what counts as a small update vs. a new project?
Small updates are content changes, typo fixes, image swaps, or design tweaks that take less than a working session — under about two hours. New projects are anything with a scope: a new page, a redesign, an integration. If the line is unclear, I'll tell you which side it falls on before starting.
How is this different from a Build?
A Build is a fixed-fee engagement that ends at launch: strategy, brand, site, handoff. The Care Plan starts after that. It keeps a live site healthy and evolving. It does not replace a rebuild, and it is not required to own the site you already paid for.
